Purcell’s masterpiece Dido and Aeneas is enriched with diverse dance and music that characterise the cultural expressions along the Silk Road. Beginning in China we reach Carthage accompanied by the various traditions found along the route that has played such an important role in the evolution of civilisation. The sets will be designed by Gianni Dessì whose work is found in numerous important museums of contemporary art, and whose experience with operatic set design includes collaborations with La Scala, the Opera di Roma and the Salzburg Festival. The tragedy of the unhappy Carthaginian queen is immersed in an innovative and audacious setting.
